Cordiality and Collegiality must for growth and progress of the institution: Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain

Varanasi: Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain has said that a cordial, cooperative and collegial work culture is must for an institution to flourish and members of Banaras Hindu University must work as a team for the varsity to touch new heights of glory and growth. The Vice-Chancellor was interacting with teachers of Faculty of Social Sciences at a programme in H N Tripathi Seminal Hall of the faculty. He discussed the problems and challenges being faced by teachers in the course of teaching and routine activities and sought their suggestions in resolving them. He said that teachers have a very important role to play in the smooth and effective functioning of the university, be it teaching, research, administration or any other activity. He exhorted the faculty members to come forward with suggestions and efforts and contribute in finding solutions to various issues being faced by them. He said that all the institutions and systems face challenges and adversities, but one must constructively engage and involve rather than just criticizing and condemning. That's how we all can grow as a team and as an institution, said Prof. Jain.
The Vice-Chancellor said that Social Sciences is a very important area and linking it with other key areas like Environment, Sustainable Development and Computer Science can do wonders. We may be able to come up with research and solutions that could be very useful for the society and common public, he added. Prof. Jain called for institutionalizing interdisciplinarity to boost and foster constant interaction and cooperative work between faculty members from diverse disciplines. He said that there cannot be any better place than BHU for this as the university offers the best ecosystem and infrastructure for inter-disciplinary research and studies.
Listing his priorities, the Vice-Chancellor said that availability of classrooms as per the actual need, having a responsive, simple and effective administrative structure and creating new and promising opportunities for students and faculty members, are among the areas his administration is putting focus on. Prof. Jain said that universities and educational institutions have unique and distinct roles and responsibilities which are educating, research, outreach, providing solutions to the problems of society and the people in general. We as members of Banaras Hindu University should work and contribute in accordance with these responsibilities and expectations, underlined Prof. Jain.
Faculty members offered suggestions regarding examinations, quality in teaching and research and improving BHU's ranking. Prof. Binda Paranjape, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, welcomed the Vice-Chancellor and thanked the faculty members for being part of the interaction. Heads of various departments and senior officers were also present on the occasion.
