·         OPEN AIR GYMS INSTALLED AT FOUR LOCATIONS EQUIPPED WITH FULL BODY EXERCISE MACHINES

·         INITIATIVE IS A PART OF BHU’S FOCUS ON THE OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS

VARANASI: In line with Mahamana’s vision of the overall development of students, Banaras Hindu University has taken a number of initiatives to ensure their intellectual, mental, and physical well-being. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain has time and again reiterated that physical fitness is integral to personality development of students and physical and sporting activities should form a necessary part of their routines. The university has been putting a greater focus on creating a sports friendly atmosphere and enhancing sporting facilities and infrastructure, in order to encourage and facilitate more and more students. Taking another step in this regard, the University Sports Board, Banaras Hindu University, has now installed open air gyms at four locations on the campus. Every gym has been equipped with 9-10 machines facilitating full body exercises. These machines include waist twister, rover, shoulder press, chest press, back pull up, sit up and stepper among others.

Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai, Vice-President, University Sports Board, said that the idea behind setting up open air gyms is to ensure an all-time accessibility to students and staff of BHU. This will also help in developing a habit of exercising and working out, said Prof. Rai.

Prof. Abhimanyu Singh, General Secretary, University Sports Board, BHU, informed that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain has directed to beef up the sporting infrastructure and facilities in the university. Arrangements are being made to install artificial lighting at playgrounds to enable students to use grounds even in evening and night hours, added Prof. Singh.
