BHU: Indian Immunology Society organized a conference on "Infections, Vaccines, and Immuno-innovation for Human Health"


The 48th Annual Conference of the Indian Immunology Society was organized by Dr. Geeta Rai, Convenor and Secretary, from the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University. This two-day virtual Conference is based on the theme- “Infections, Vaccines & Immuno-Innovations for Human Health” focusing on the frontier’s areas of Immunology. The meeting hosted several distinguished International and National speakers including Prof Faith Osier, (UK) (President, International Union of Immunology Societies) (IUIS), Prof Clive Gray (SA) (Convenor-18th International Congress of Immunology 2023, Cape town), and Prof Betty Diamond (USA) (Director, Northwell Health's Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, USA).

The International and National Immunologists of Repute who also shared the Conference platform on 9th July, include our own Padma Bhushan Prof G P Talwar sir, Prof Shubhada Chiplunkar, Prof Shikhar Mehrotra, USA, Prof M. Ravichandran, Malaysia, Prof L. M. Srivastava, whose names need no introduction. Day two covered research advances from various fields including Immune Dysregulation & autoimmunity, Innate Immunity, COVID-19,, and other viral Infections. Prof Shubhada Chiplunkar delivered a talk on Tumor hypoxia: Impediment to Cancer Immunotherapy while Prof M Ravichandran spoke about the scientific journey of Cold Chain free Cholera vaccine development.

The winners of the Outstanding Immunologist Award – Female category awarded to Dr. Prakriti Tayalia, Associate Professor, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. The Outstanding Immunologist Award - Male category conferred to Dr. Ashok Sharma, Additional Professor, Department of Biochemistry, All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, India.

To encourage and appreciate the young Immunologists, the G. P. Talwar Young Scientist Oration award, best oral Presentation, and best e-poster award were announced at the valedictory sessions. Padma Bhushan – Prof G. P. Talwar who is also the founder of the Indian Immunology Society encouraged all the participants and appreciated the convenor and organizing secretary, Dr. Geeta Rai, and her team at the valedictory function.


The organizing committee was committed to making this IMMUNOCON-BHU a truly illuminating experience for all the participants.
