PM Modi in Germany; meets German, and Indonesian leaders


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, on Monday held a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. 

 Besides agreeing on enhancing trade and investment ties, the talks between the two leaders focused on further diversifying the India-Germany friendship for the global good.  

 During the high-level meeting,  both sides also jointly emphasized the need to take forward India-Germany Green and Sustainable Development Partnership.  Under this, Germany has committed to providing additional development assistance of €10 billion till 2030 to support India’s green growth plans. 

 Speaking of his meeting with the German Chancellor, PM Modi said, “Excellent meeting with Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz. Thanked him for the warm hospitality during the G7 Summit. We discussed cooperation in key sectors like commerce and energy. We also had deliberations on furthering environmentally friendly growth for our planet.” 

 It is pertinent to note that this was the second meeting between the two leaders this year. Recently the leaders met during the PM’s visit to Berlin on 2 May 2022 for the India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations. 

 Further continuing their discussions, the two sides also covered issues like climate action, provision of climate financing, and technology transfer during the meeting.  

 “Greater coordination in international bodies, particularly in the context of India’s forthcoming G-20 presidency, was discussed. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments,” the statement by the Ministry of External Affairs said.  

 PM Modi meets Indonesian President Joko Widodo 

 On the margins of the G7 Summit, PM Modi also met with the leaders of G7 countries, G7 partner countries, and guest International Organisations. On Monday, PM Modi met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Besides holding talks on regional and global issues of mutual interest, the leaders also discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation between the two countries.  

 Speaking of his meeting with the Indonesian President, PM Modi said, “Met President Joko Widodo and discussed various bilateral issues between India and Indonesia. We had wide-ranging conversations on improving trade and cultural ties between our countries. India greatly cherishes the strong bond with Indonesia.” 

 The high-level discussion between the leaders also focused on Indonesia’s ongoing and India’s forthcoming G20 presidency.
