Varanasi : Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir K. Jain today chaired a meeting of women faculty members, admin wardens of girls hostels and senior officers of Banaras Hindu University and discussed measures on safety of girls on campus. The meeting was also attended by the Registrar Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Dean of Students Prof. K. K. Singh, Librarian of the University and Chief Proctor among others. The meeting assumes significance in wake of the university decision of extending the timing of Cyber Library Study Centre. The new timing to use the study centre is now from 8 am to 5 am. Earlier, the timing was from 8am to 11 pm. University administration has already made it clear that it will make sure that girl students are not at a disadvantage when it comes to the use of cyber study centre during late evening and night hours, in wake of their hostel timings.
Earlier in the day, the Vice-Chancellor also interacted with girl students and sought their views and suggestions over the decision of extending the timings of Cyber Library Study Centre. A number of students residing in various hostels shared the issues they face and offered suggestions to make it convenient for them to be able to use the study centre during odd hours given the timings of their hostels.
The Vice-Chancellor has time and again reiterated that welfare of students and safety of girls on the campus are among the top priorities of BHU administration and all possible measures shall be taken in this regard.
