DLW created a record by producing 367 locomotives
The Banaras Rail Workshop in Varanasi is presenting the best example of self-reliant and indigenous India. Not only this, it is working to break its own records. Banaras Rail Locomotive Factory has created history by setting a new record by manufacturing the highest number of locomotives till date during the financial year 2021-22. A total of 367 locomotives were manufactured including 4 locomotives exported to Mozambique this financial year, which is a huge achievement in itself. These 367 locomotives include passenger locomotive WAP7 total 31, freight locomotive WAG9 total 332 and 4 locomotives for Mozambique.
60.68 crore revenue receipt
Along with this, Banaras Rail Workshop (Bereka) received 60.68 crores from exported loco in the financial year 2021-22 and a total of 704 crores since 2011 and 1837 crores from non-railway customers since 2011 till date. In the year 2021-22, Bareca generated revenue of 6.09 crores from exported locomotive parts as compared to 1.08 crores in the previous year 2020-21 and an increase of 464 per cent over the previous year. Similarly, the supply of locomotive parts from non-railway customers generated revenue of 16.4 crores, which was 8.29 crores in the previous year 2020-21 and was 98.6 percent higher in comparison.
Rail engines exported to Mozambique
Diesel locomotives manufactured in Bereka are making their presence felt in Africa. Realizing the vision of a self-reliant India, these Cape Gauge Diesel Locomotives were exported to Mozambique, designed and manufactured and financed by India for export.
Manufacture of engine critical item
Banaras Rail Workshop is an important undertaking of Indian Railways. Here railway locomotives are made. Banaras Rail Factory is an undertaking of completely indigenous and self-reliant India. The crank-case assembly, which is the most important item of the locomotive, is manufactured in-house at Bereka. These locomotives are currently being successfully operated in separate units for carrying coal from the coal mines.
Globalizes as a locomotive manufacturing brand
Make in India rail engines are being prepared under self-reliant India, they are also being exported. These locomotives made at Bereka were formally inaugurated by the President of Mozambique on 11 February 2022 at Beira, Mozambique in the presence of His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe and the High Commissioner of India. Thus Banaras Rail Locomotive Factory has reached the global stage as a trusted partner and locomotive manufacturing brand. Under this, a five member high level delegation of National Railways of Zimbabwe along with officials of M/s RITES, a Public Sector Undertaking of Indian Railways visited India.
Zimbabwe's railway team visits Bereka
General Manager Bareka Anjali Goyal assured RITES and them full support and promptness in fulfilling their export orders. General Manager Bareka also assured the Zimbabwe team that Bareka is very keen to participate in the economic development and modernization of Zimbabwe's national railways. A team from Zimbabwe's National Railways visited the Banaras Rail Locomotive Factory on 29 March to see the construction facilities available at Bereka. On this occasion a meeting of representatives was held with the team of high officials of Bareka. During the meeting, the capabilities of Bereka were demonstrated and the Zimbabwe delegation was apprised of the details of the exported locos.
Let us tell you that even during the global pandemic Corona period and lockdown, the employees of Indian Railways continued to work tirelessly, without stopping.
