Lucknow : Many welfare schemes are being run by the central government to provide basic necessities like own house, health to the common citizens at cheap prices, which are proving to be very beneficial for the common citizens. One of these schemes is the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana. So far, more than 8600 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been established to provide generic medicines at affordable prices to the poor and middle class people in the country. Medicines sold through these centers have increased by 35 per cent over the previous year. Not only this, along with generic allopathic medicines, now Ayurvedic medicines are also being included in it. Thermometers and blood pressure measuring machines will also be available at these centers in the coming days.

Question- How much benefit people are getting from Jan Aushadhi Kendra?
Answer – Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana has been started with the objective of providing quality medicines at affordable rates especially to the poor and the underprivileged. This scheme was started in the year 2008. Since then till 2014, there were only 80 centers in the country. Under the leadership of PM Modi, the central government increased this number to more than 8,600. Medicines here are cheap as well as good in quality. If someone falls ill in the middle class or poor class, then most of the earnings are spent on treatment and medicines. Medicines available at these centers at 50 to 90 per cent lower rates have eased the concerns of the people. If we look at the figures, so far 13 thousand crore rupees have been saved by the people through these centers. Poor people are also getting all the necessary medicines, which used to be very expensive.
Question- People have concerns about their quality regarding cheap medicines, so how do they assure people that the medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras are effective?
Answer- Medicines found at Jan Aushadhi Kendras are generic, that is, medicines are prepared using basic salts used in medicines. Medicines are cheaper due to being generic but they are as effective as branded medicines. There is a misconception among the people that generic medicines are of low quality. We check the quality of medicines at two levels. Testing is done by one company and in the other NABL laboratory. This process takes a week. After complete examination the medicines are sent to the centres.
Question – 8600 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been established in the country, are they being opened only in big cities and towns or are they getting benefits in rural areas also?
Answer- A target has been set to open more than 10 thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the country by the year 2024. As far as opening centers in rural and cities are concerned, rules have been set for this. Where there is potential for more sales of medicines, Jan Aushadhi Kendras are opened. Centers are being set up in rural areas where there is a need for these centres. In the coming time, preparations are being made to open a center in AIIMS, Delhi.
Question- How many medicines have been sold in this financial year?
Answer – Medicines worth more than Rs 900 crore have been sold through Jan Aushadhi Kendras this year. This is an increase of 35 per cent as compared to the previous year. In the year 2021, 36 thousand crore medicines have been sold. The percentage of profit from the sale of these drugs is expected to increase further in the coming years due to the increasing confidence in generic drugs.
Question- How many types of medicines and medical equipment are available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras?
Answer- At present, 1600 types of medicines and more than 250 types of medical equipment are available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Preparations are being made to increase this number soon. Some more drugs will also be included in this list. In the coming days, more than 2 thousand types of medicines will be available. Along with this, medicines like diabetes, heart disease, cancer are also being considered.
Question- Is there anything special for women at Jan Aushadhi Kendras?
Answer- Sanitary napkins for women are also available at these centers for Re 1. The sale of more than 21 crore sanitary napkins shows that Jan Aushadhi Kendras are making life easier for a large number of women. The quality of these sanitary napkins is good.
Question- What measures are being taken to make people aware about generic medicines?
Ans- A special campaign has been run for a week from March 7 to make people aware about generic medicines and Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The use and benefits of 'generic' medicines have been highlighted through various programs and forums. being done. People are now understanding its importance.
