Delhi :Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 11th Khel Mahakumbh at Sardar Patel Stadium on Saturday. He unveiled the 11th Khel Mahakumbh and the Gujarat Sports Policy 2022-27. Giving the slogan “Na Hindustan rukne wala hai, na thakne wala hai”, PM Modi said that India's golden age in sports has arrived.
Khel Mahakumbh increased the number of players
Addressing the program, PM Modi said that this ocean of youthful enthusiasm, this wave of enthusiasm clearly shows in front of me that the youth of Gujarat, you are all ready to touch the sky. It is not only the center of sports but also the center of youth of Gujarat. Today I am seeing this seed taking the form of such a big banyan tree. In the first Khel Mahakumbh in the year 2010, Gujarat started with 16 lakh players in 16 sports. This participation has reached from 13 lakh to 40 lakh youth in the 2019 Khel Mahakumbh. With over four million players in 36 sports and 26 para sports, kabaddi, kho-kho and tug of war, our youth today are at the fore in every sport. Now this figure has crossed 40 lakhs to 55 lakhs.
The PM said that we started recognizing the talents of the country and giving them all necessary support. Referring to India's stellar performance in Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, he said that today the brilliance of gold and silver is shining the confidence of the country.

He said that earlier lack of transparency in the selection of players was also a big factor. All the talent of the players was spent in battling the problems. Today better and better training facilities are being given to the players. He said that in 2018, we established the country's first National Sports University in Manipur. Major Dhyan Chand Sports University is also going to start in Uttar Pradesh for higher education in sports.
