Ten days workshop on communication skills started at Banaras Hindu University

 Varanasi : The ten-day communication skills workshop organized for the students of the university under the joint aegis of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Faculty of Arts, and University Placement and Coordination Cell was inaugurated today in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The objective of this workshop is to develop communication skills of BHU students so that they can be prepared for their career opportunities and challenges and can face them with confidence.

Addressing the inaugural function of the workshop, Head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Prof. Shishir Basu said that when students move forward for career after completing their university education, it is important that they are completely confident and face the interview without any hesitation. Communication and communication skills are very important in ensuring this confidence in students. He said that during this workshop, which will run from 28 March 2022 to 7 April 2022, emphasis will be given to further enhance this quality in the students and they will be made aware of the nuances of various aspects of communication skills. He expressed hope that after this workshop the students will feel a lot of positive change in themselves.


Head of the University Placement Coordination Cell Prof. V.K. Chandola said that a lot of changes are being made by the university in the placement cells in various faculties and departments and students are being included in large numbers in them. Under this, many such activities and programs are being organized, through which students are ready to move ahead in their life and develop their skills. He said that many a times students are unable to crack the interview despite doing very well in studies, mainly because of the shortcomings in their communication skills. Hence, the placement cell has a special emphasis on improving their communication skills as an important aspect of personality building of the students. He said that one of the objectives of this workshop is also to prepare resource persons from amongst the students, who can go ahead and help other students in skill development.


Dr. Neha Pandey, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, conducted the program. He said that technical sessions on various subjects would be organized during the workshop, in which students would get to learn a lot by experts.


Dr. Umesh Singh, Training and Placement Officer, said that the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication can play a leading role in making the students of Banaras Hindu University skilled in communication skills.


Dr. Bala Lakhendra, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, sent vote of thanks. A large number of students from various faculties of the university were present on the occasion. In the inaugural function, Prof. Anurag Dave and Dr. Aarti Nirmal of English Department were also present.
